Ruby Woo & Johnson Yu Exhibition      May 4 - June 19, 2012

Hong Kong glass artists Ruby Woo and Johnson Yu will open their two-person exhibition at Koru Contemporary Art on May 4, 2012.

Each artist has a unique aesthetic to their work and seeks inspiration from different sources.


“Evolving into a global city, my birthplace, Hong Kong has been subjected to extraordinary political and economic changes in the last decade. With the rapid development of the city, the consciousness of the past seems lost for the sake of modern constructions. The theme of my work is about ‘Identity Search’. It seems that my search for identity has become loss of identity. It is because many historical places and the heritage of Hong Kong have been demolished under the wheel of economic expansion. At the same time, the progress has removed our memories constructed over time and the sense of place that established our identity.”

“Everyday as I walk through the path in the campus to where I work, there are leaves fallen onto the ground. Dancing & whirling in the wind, some were being carried away to a corner. Some caught hanging over branches and fences, or tangling around plants. They were all left to be dried out through adverse weather conditions.

This inspires me to create a body of work which explores about memories, love & relationships."
