Koru Contemporary Art is delighted to announce the return of renowned New Zealand glass artist Christine Cathie

In this body of work Cathie continues to expand on themes from previous works, namely the playful exploration of light and form.

Inspired by the natural forms of the environment around her, specifically, movement within nature, whilst also drawing upon her architectural background with her strong lines and structured forms, Cathie continues to balance contradictions.

The folds and twists within the pieces and the gravity defying positions, generate an illusion of weightlessness, contrasting with the qualities of the glass and substantial weight of the sculptures and assists in producing a feeling of not only movement and drama, but also of tension. Cathie's composition of forms also creates an array of tones and depth of colour, whilst also casting different intensities of light, which is enhanced further by her choice of lead crystal.

Being a selected finalist for the Ranamok Art Prize in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006, and with work in the collections of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Glasmuseet-Denmark and Sir Elton John this is a rare and exciting opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
